PAN & TILT POWER HEAD 340

Posted by Bob Wood on 24th Jan 2016

I bought this PowerHead with the specific plan of converting the wired remote control to BlueTooth wireless which I've done and, with that I cannot fault it. The movement is smooth and accurate with no discernible judder. The motors are quiet which is VERY important if your using your on-board microphone. The only thing it didn't have was support for stop-motion but, now with BlueTooth I have that too. Result

Good but only for lightweight systems

Posted by Unknown on 28th May 2015

I bought this to go on a 2m tall centre column on my Gitzo tripod. I'm mainly using it with a Sony A7R and it works well with that - especially as I can control the camera with the Sony smartphone app. I have tried it with my Cambo technical camera / digital back: it's ok but it struggles to move the weight of that (around 4kg), especially in the forward / backward dimension. Because it's lightweight, this is a great head for travelling with. One small issue is that the head doesn't rotate 360º freely - it goes to a stop and then has to be rotated all the way the other way to continue from that point, a bit of a nuisance if you are doing sweep shots with video. The remote control wheel is not the best - it's easy to alter the forward/back angle when changing the side-to-side angle: a bit inconvenient when the camera is 10 feet above me but not a big problem. For the price, it's a great product. It could be improved I think by being wirelessly controlled with a smartphone app and perhaps a bit more robust.

if you want to get closer in on the action.

Posted by Unknown on 2nd Feb 2015

bought this for filming of wildlife so i can get closer to the action and save money rather than buying prime lenses that cost upwards of £5k, its very quiet when operating (just about silent) and looks well made, i have waterproofed the extension cable joints with self amalgamating tape and camouflaged the head /camera/short lens with one of them leafy camo head net /balaclava things perfect ! no wildlife should work out what it is now and i can remotely control the head for allot more chances to get wildlife in shot Also if you have a panasonic lumix g6/gh4 you can add a 45-175mm lens and use the panasonic phone app the zoom in and out and view the action real time while adjusting the powerhead for even more control. this head is just about perfect for the price as the next step up is £1k+ for a better professional rig, i highly recommend it for the Amateur filmmaker / photographer who needs to get close and save money on expensive cameras/lenses.
